Grady Owen was a singer, guitarist and prolific songwriter
whose career in the music industry spanned over forty years. Grady’s main claim to fame is that he was a
member of legendary rocker Gene Vincent’s band The Blue Caps in 1958, He toured with the band, recorded 43 songs with them at Capitol Records and even appeared on television and in a Hollywood movie with them. Otherwise his blip on the music industry
radar was rather faint, but he made an impact nevertheless in his own quiet way,
making a living (sometimes, just barely) during his lifetime at the craft that
he loved.
I always found Grady, my uncle, to be a rather fascinating
person, and over the years I’ve wanted to put something together on the net to
share his story. This site is the fruit
of that desire.
I’ve broken it down into sections to simplify
matters.
First, an Introduction that tells a little about my quest
to research Grady’s life and career.
Then, a Biography of Grady’s career, much of it in his
own words.
Finally, there’s a Compilation of Grady’s recordings,
releases and songwriting credits.
I hope you’ll enjoy yourself here. Thanks for stopping by.

Note: Grady name sometimes appears on recordings or in
credits as Grady Owens, but the last name without the ‘S’ is correct. Also, there was a songwriter active during
the 1920s named Grady Owens, with the ‘S,’ so this sometimes confuses matters
as well. Grady was active in the music
industry from the late 1940s until the mid 1990s.
